Annoucement
Ok so I haven't posted for a while and that was pretty much intentional. One I don't have a camera and really need one. Two i'm going to Pittsburgh for medical school and will be starting a webpage/blog for that alone. Yes you will get to watch the trials and tribulations of a an older medical student that has seen it all and done a lot. So stay tuned. August 13th is the white coat ceremony then i'll be moving my link to a webpage and you can follow the hell I will endure there. Nothing will be left out. When I cry you cry but to hell with that we are just going to get through this together. Ok later.

B.

I'm updating this shit
Man my life is ridiculously busy. The medical school classes that I am taking are work with a side of you'll never see daylight again. I figure one more year of this shit and i'm taking a break to work at a pizza place, bar, or any live music venue where i'll make no money but be fucking ecstatic. I hope my homies out there are holding shit down. I just got pictures back from Bro #1 in Finland. If you notice the dude looks like a certified finish ninja (minus the blond hair -- yeah he has blue eyes -- oh and he's not entirely white). For those that didn't know heres an abridged aka my version of one of the Finish winter wars but first a definition:

SISU - Sisu is a unique Finnish concept. It stands for the philosophy that what must be done will be done, regardless of what it takes. Sisu is a special strength and persistent determination and resolve to continue and overcome in the moment of adversity…an almost magical quality, a combination of stamina, perserverance, courage, and determination held in reserve for hard times.

On November 30, 1939, under the leadership of Joseph Stalin 250,000 Russian troops under the cover of a coordinated air and artillery bombardment crossed into Finland to begin one of the least publicized and most costly campaigns in the annals of military history. It was here that the Russians brought with them no winter gear, no medical services, and a 13 piece band. Obviously this was going to be easy. They were facing 9 - 11,000 man divisions - poorly equipped but fighting for their homes, families, and people. I'd figured at this point troops were hitting the bottle rather liberally. This shit wasn't going to be easy. Russians know cold but...Finns know cold better, this was to be one of the coldest winter in history. The minute the Russians crossed they were wholesale massaquered by the Finns at a rate of 10,000 Russian troops a day to their 250. For 105 days the world held its breath and learned the word sisu, while Russians died at this incredible rate. To make an extremely long story short....1.5 million Russian men were sent to Finland and one million of them were killed. 1000 aircraft, 2300 tanks and armored cars and an enormous amount of other war materials were lost. The Finns humiliated the Russians and gave Hitler the determinism to defeat its eastern neighbor. Oh one last thing. The Molotov cocktail was named for a Russian negotiator by the Finns and was used by them in 4 man Moltov teams to destroy russian tanks with vunerable gas ports; they invented the godamn thing. Lets thank the Finnish Liquor Board!!!

GI BRO
First reports from my brother in the Finish army are that he is alive and well. Actually, he loves it and there are other people with him that don't speak Swedish one being an Australian. Weird right.

Concrete Jungle
So I just got back yesterday for America's birthday. I'm walking down the street drinking a grenade of yuengling heading to the fantastic Philadelphia fireworks with some friends and two kids bike past. One kid about eleven years old screams to me, "yo, let me smack that." I say, "dude your fucking 10 years old." His reply, "Awright grape ape." "Did that kid just call me Grape Ape" I ask my friend? Too late my friends are laughing their asses off. Yeah GRAPE APE. You gotta love those little bastards.

Vancouver!!
I had a chance to visit Vancouver awhile back here's a couple o' pics.

Vancouver EMS treated me good, I still owe them shirts.

To say Vancouver has its shit together in regards to EMS is an understatement. For many people in Vancouver EMS is a good career with many opportunities for advancement unlike in the United States where care is dependent upon city, state and municipality. A career here in EMS is comparable to a life of grueling work, several divorces, bouts of alcoholism or drug addiction and eventually a true hate for what you are doing. Seattle EMS is as close as you can come to truly optimal health care delivery here in the United States so others take heed. Oh enough rambling here I am on the scene.

And finally the incredible Whistler/Blackcomb. I think it was late April or early May and there was still enough snow to snowboard or ski.

2005 Annual OneUpSkateboard bash
If you looked through my previous posts you would have seen the second annual OneUpSkateboard bash. The third was even bigger! During the day at the skatepark food was dished out as usual and a demo was done by the new team City and the old Direction East. Pete Eldridge and Mike Maldonado were around as well as other pros. The afterparty was held at the deli and here are the pictures. Oh, they premiered a couple of videos, the OneUpSkateshop and Direction East video. I think there was another but my memory is foggy.

The MC of the evening JG proud co-owner of OneUpSkateshop to scream at your ass before the videos came on.

So you may be saying..
What a whirlwind of a weekend. I have slept a total of 2 hours in 3 days and drove to Pittsburgh and Philadelphia in the interim. Why, you may ask? Because of the 2nd or 3rd annual backyard banger that's all. Ok, so I love skateboarding and always will. I was actually decent at it at one time and still look at my board like we have something to say to each other. But, that aside, I have a lot of respect for all those in Phildelphia and the Burgh' coming together for one massive throwdown and keeping the connection alive. What ensued was....and if your not familiar...JG and Jerry's annual OneUpSkateboard appreciation day. But I should add a third party to the mix at this point as he's been integral in maintaining the skate ownership vibe and that had to be lord helmet himself Greg! Ok with the players in place what I propose is to post pictures from not the actual barbeque as I didn't have a camera in the day but the aftermath at the BBQ banger afterparty. I love you all in these pics and you motherfuckers have come a long way since dawson....

PICTURES WILL BE POSTED TOMORROW! STAY TUNED
